What We Do

Chenoweth Environmental Planning & Landscape Architecture Pty Ltd (Chenoweth EPLA) is a small multidisciplinary consultancy based in Brisbane, Australia. We integrate natural resources and ecology, open space management and landscape design, town planning and urban design, landscape evaluation and environmental impact assessment. The practice is based on a commitment to sustainable development through a synthesis of science, planning, design and consultation.

Alan Chenoweth formed the practice (as Chenoweth & Associates Pty Ltd) in 1990 after 16 years experience in plant sciences, environmental impact assessment, park management, landscape design and housing development in both the public and private sectors. The practice has eight permanent staff, with regular contract personnel and a network of specialist sub-consultants as required for each project. Our professional team is talented, innovative and flexible, with a range of qualifications and skills to ensure a genuinely multi-disciplinary approach. Joint consultancies and associations with other firms and research groups are also regularly formed to ensure that the combination of skills, knowledge and technical support is appropriate to each project brief. For international consultancy projects in China, we are part of the HRP Group, a consortium of planners, engineers, urban and landscape designers, traffic and tourism experts.

Chenoweth EPLA has proven capabilities and a well-established reputation for quality work in environmental planning, landscape architecture and natural resource studies. Our clients include State government agencies, local authorities and other statutory and semi-government bodies, the land development sector, planning and design consultants, the Planning & Environment Court, and the commercial, industrial and tourism industries. A current list of clients is available on request.

A significant proportion of our work is directed towards integrating ecological and human needs, particularly through regional and local "Green Planning" studies such as vegetation mapping, nature conservation significance classification, landscape character and scenic assessment, open space management plans and environmental policies, and their translation into Strategic Plans and other town planning scheme documents. Chenoweth EPLA won the 1994 Royal Australian Planning Institute (Qld) Award for Excellence in Planning and a 1995 National RAPI Certificate of Merit for the Pine Rivers Shire Green Plan, and a 2001 RAPI Certificate of Merit for the Common Nature Conservation Classification System.
