Ecology

The Cardno Chenoweth team of ecologists, all with GIS skills and qualifications in botany or zoology, work as an independent group or closely with others in environmental assessment teams. We undertake biodiversity surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation mapping and a range of other natural resource inventory and analysis services. Our team is skilled in techniques and has the appropriate permits for surveys at property scale and up to larger regional studies, and has a network of contract personnel and sub-consultants for other services such as fauna spotter/catcher roles.

The services provided for clients in the public and private land development and resource sectors range from preliminary desktop assessments to due diligence investigations, data acquisition and description, through to comprehensive impact assessments, management plans, biodiversity strategies and policy recommendations. Our expertise in ecology is also integrated with in-house capabilities in planning, design, visual assessment and open space management. We are also experienced in managing multi-disciplinary teams involving other consultants and researchers.

Our approach is both rigorous and consultative based on conservation biology principles, and working closely with clients and stakeholders to identify/resolve issues. Our reports are capable of withstanding community, scientific and legal scrutiny.

In this rapidly-changing field, clients can be assured of advice which is appropriate and up-to-date. High priority is placed on continuing professional development, library and internet searches, regular presentation of papers at conferences, and maintaining links with policy-makers, agency personnel, professional bodies and community groups. Our work is also regularly benchmarked through expert testimony before the Planning & Environment Court.
